台灣之光李安導演受文化部長龍應台之邀，為台灣紀錄片請命，他說台灣的樣子被記錄片記錄下來，他呼籲政府不要再砍文化、紀錄片的預算，可以的話最好再多加一點，他笑說「當然不是從劇情片移過去。」

李安談到此行最重要的目的是陪老母親過母親節，他說李母像小孩子，「有時候我面對她，我覺得我好像像是大人。」他說媽媽看到他就很高興，對他身上寄託非常大，他在國外和母親通電話，變成母親生活上的支柱。
