好奇號沒在火星上發現甲烷

美國太空總署（NASA）表示，「好奇號」火星探測器尚未發現甲烷存在的跡象，這意味科學家在火星上發現生命的可能性降低了。甲烷氣體在地球上是生命存在的重要指標。

研究結果十九日發表在「科學」期刊上。好奇號去年八月登陸火星，調查火星過去或現在是否適合微生物存活。地球上的甲烷大部分是生物活動的副產物，在動物消化食物或植物腐爛時產生。二○○三年，科學家透過望遠鏡或軌道太空船發現火星大氣中有大量甲烷，因此科學家預期好奇號會在火星上偵測到甲烷。

雖然好奇號尚未測到甲烷，但因地球上有許多微生物不排出甲烷，因此並不能完全排除火星上有生命的可能性，不過研究成果讓「火星目前有生命存在」的觀念失去證據，回到純粹想像的層次。（綜合外電）
