【邱俊吉／台北報導】罕見疾病醫學研究又見突破。馬偕醫院推動大規模第1型黏多醣症新生兒篩檢計畫，成功在疾病未發前確診2名新生兒患者，未來透過追蹤、選擇適當療法等，可望避免此症造成不可逆傷害，這項研究成果也獲國際學術界肯定，已登於最新一期罕病權威期刊《Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases》。

馬偕小兒遺傳科主任林炫沛說，黏多醣症為基因缺陷造成的遺傳疾病，可分7大型，全台仍存活的各型別患者僅約百人；此症病人出生時並無異樣，但隨著成長可能出現智能、骨骼、外貌等異常，也凸顯早期診斷的重要性。

透過簡便且經濟實惠的濾紙血片檢驗，馬偕團隊在4年半時間內篩檢逾3.5萬名新生兒，成功檢出2名第1型罹病者，達到早期發現、治療目的，也助病兒家庭擺脫遺傳疾病再發的宿命。
